The only thing that counts is having confidence in what we hope for and being sure that it will happen!
And until it happens we are to be patient and kind. We are to be polite and truthful. We are to protect it and never give up on it! We are to be trusting.
We are not to be rude, selfish, envious, angry and we are not supposed to bring up the past.
Keep up the faith!
Nothing else matters!
“For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision has any value. The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love.” Galatians 5:6
“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”
1 Corinthians 13:4-7
My kids and I don’t always agree on what they should have for breakfast. They’d prefer Frosted Flakes or Lucky Charms while I’d prefer eggs or fruit. Sweetened cereal is not my favorite breakfast choice for the kids but I’m not fully opposed so I offer a compromise of eggs on the side. Some days they agree more often times not. As usual, Jolie and I were discussing breakfast choices and I was standing firm on my egg offer and she was not happy about it. It looked as though breakfast was non negotiable and she would go without but after a few moments of silence she suggested we make waffles.
Now on this particular morning, I had a million things to do around the house and had zero plans of making anything like waffles but how could I refuse such a reasonable suggestion. In my opinion, waffles are a healthier option than cereal and we get the added experience of cooking together which I love! So without waffle mix, I consulted Pinterest for an easy waffle batter and found one very quickly. I was able to begin our waffles right away because I had all the necessary ingredients, flour, sugar, baking powder, milk, eggs, vanilla and butter. I had picked up an inexpensive waffle maker at Aldi sometime ago so I was good to go there. To save time, I mixed the ingredients but usually I like to measure them out and allow her to mix.
Today she got to pour and bake which she was happy to do. Her first pour overfilled the waffle iron and batter spilled making a mess as you can see. That waffle turned out to be too dense and moist but it was okay. Learning from the first, her second pour was much more controlled and less messy resulting in a near perfect waffle. We did have to trim some edges but compared to the first it was much better. She snacked on her waffles while she poured and prepared the others without butter or syrup! Breakfast turned out to be fun and satisfying for us both!
I love moments in the kitchen with my kids. I think learning to cook is such an important skill we should teach our children. It does require more time to prepare and clean up but the reward is so great. We are not just making food we are making memories. Our time cooking together is quality and we learn a lot about our food preferences and learning styles. Following the recipes teaches them how to follow directions and it rewards their obedience with a yummy treat. They get to enjoy the work of their hands which I think boosts their confidence. I also use the opportunity to teach them about food and how important it is to make good food choices for their health. Like all parents, I want my children to be healthy and feel empowered and equipped to take good care of themselves and I believe providing them with a solid cooking foundation is a great way to do that. Weekends are a great time to start! Happy cooking to you!
In baseball, a batter is often praised by fans and said to have a good eye when he or she chooses not to swing at a ball thrown outside the strike zone. It is good that the batter has watched the ball and used knowledge and experience to discern where that ball is headed to know whether or not to swing. The batter has to do this for every ball that is being pitched. If the batter stands at the plate and does not keep a good eye on each pitch they could strike out.
Every day God expects us to step up to the plate with good eyes that are ready to watch everything that is being thrown at us. We have to use our knowledge of the word and our experience to discern whether or not what is being thrown at us falls within God’s strike zone. If we choose to not follow God’s law and commands found in his word then there’s a high chance we may swing at a bad pitch and strike out. We could swing hard and level and still miss because we did not keep watch or keep a good eye on the pitch. The world and people around you are constantly throwing pitches, good and bad, and they want you to swing and they may not care if you strike out.
Do yourself a favor and seek God and his word first on whether or not you should swing at what’s being thrown at you. God wants his people to hit out of the park home runs not strike out. So when you stand up at the plate today, only swing at righteous pitches and seek praise from God for your good eyes!
“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”
It is better to listen to Jesus for yourself and form your own thoughts and opinions about him.
Pilate listened to the people and then he listened to Jesus. Pilate listened to both sides and made his own decision. He concluded that Jesus was good and innocent of any wrongdoing.
If you want to know the truth, you have to listen to Jesus. Jesus came into the world to testify about the truth. His purpose was to teach us and show us the truth so we could live by it.
Read the red letters of the Bible out loud and listen to the words that Jesus spoke. Ponder them, chew on them, think about what he is saying and how that applies to your life today.
Sure you can listen and watch others, but it is better to hear from Jesus himself. No man on earth can fully understand or articulate the full measure of God. It’s better to experience it for yourself.
Jesus challenged Pilate’s thinking. He wants to challenge your thinking too. Will you accept?
Bottom line: Free your mind and think for yourself. Don’t rely on the thoughts and opinions of others. Be a free thinker ❤️
I was planting some flowers and dug up this lil guy. It got me thinkin’ about how much happiness these lil underground creatures bring people when a fish takes a bite of one on a hook! I mean if a worm can create joy, certainly a cicada can too! Maybe they’d be good fishin’ bait 🤷♀️ or fun to collect in a jar 🤷♀️ maybe they’d be a good snack for a lizard 🤷♀️ or a snack for you! I hear they are high in protein 😂 Surely we can find good purpose for them!
There’s so many people walking through life unhappy, tired, and overwhelmed. Living for the weekends and working to retire so we can simply rest. It’s like we are always looking to the end so we can simply rest. Life can feel like a heavy burden.
I am certain God did not intended for us to live this way. Is it possible that we have conformed so much to the patterns of this world that we have completely lost sight of the old paths, the trusted tried and true way? Is this the cause of so much of our unhappiness and unrest in homes? In our community? In our country?
I just wonder how much different life would look like and how much different life would feel if more people asked God to show them the good and right way instead of continuing on their current path because that’s what they think is right, because that’s what they’ve been taught is right or because that’s what they’ve been shown is right. I just wonder how much God would have us throw off. I’m sure it would be difficult but I can imagine the rest and the peace would be greater.
Jesus invites us to come to him so we can find rest for our souls. Maybe the next time we talk to Jesus we can simply ask him to light up the old, ancient path so we know the right way to go.
Life is too short to be overwhelmed and exhausted all the time. Make rest and peace a priority while you’re living. Don’t save it for the grave.
““Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”
Pictured is the hallway that leads out of my mudroom. If you look closely at this photo, you will see a path left behind from a special certain someone’s dirty farm boots.
I walked over the prints several times before noticing them because on this particular morning the sky was dark and cloudy from rain that had passed and the hallway was dark. The dark sky had filtered the floor and kept the prints hidden out of my sight. It was only when the sun broke through the clouds and the light shined in the window were the muddy prints exposed. It was only in the light that I could see the prints.
It reminded me of John 3: 19-21 where Jesus said, “This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God.”
The truth is that the light helps us see and it always exposes. And just like how the light shined through the window and exposed the dirty prints on my floor, the light of God shines in us and exposes the dirt hidden on the inside that makes us unclean and impure in his sight. God wants us to be clean and pure like his son Jesus, so he exposes our dirt so that we can work with him on cleaning it up. The cleaner we are on the inside the closer we grow to God. The closer we are to God the more we become like Him. The more we become like Him, the closer we are to our true self and the less we have to filter and hide. God wants to remove all the dirt and darkness that blocks and filters your view of the beautiful life he created just for you. He wants to expose the real you to the world so that his light will shine through you purely and unfiltered so others will see him.
God shines his light of life on you because he loves you, however, Jesus teaches us that despite hearing and knowing about the love of God some people prefer to remain living in darkness. They don’t want to see their dirt because they love their ways and don’t see anything wrong with what they do or what’s inside of them. Jesus said some people are afraid to see their filth. And I’ll admit, it’s hard to see the truth and it doesn’t always feel good. It did not feel good when I saw the dirty prints on the floor. I don’t love cleaning floors, however, I do love how it feels when the cleaning is done. And in the same way, there is no greater feeling than allowing God to cleanse you and set you free from the dirt of your past. It’s then you can work in agreement with God on how to stay clean and try your best not to dirty up those floors again. However, because of our sinful nature, it’s pretty much guaranteed those floors will get dirty again but God is always there with his loving kindness and good grace to help you clean it up.
God sent his light in the world when he gave us his son Jesus. Jesus said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life (John 8:12).” It’s when you make a commitment to follow Jesus that God is able to shine his heavenly light in you to show you the way to live a clean and healthy life with him! Jesus is the way, the truth and the life (John 14:6).
Bottom line: God helps us see our dirt and helps us clean it up because he loves us and because he wants us to live in the freedom found only through his son Jesus Christ, the light of the world.
Jesus will fill you up and satisfy you with only the truth and good things! He will not fill you up with lies and things that only temporarily satisfy.
Jesus fills us for our purposes. People fill us for their purposes.
His purpose is to give you a life that is overflowing with love, peace and joy! He promises to never turn away those whose come to him. He promises to hold on tight to you for all eternity.
He is always faithful and true ❤️ Turn to Jesus and listen to what he has to offer you.
